Speak of all His wonders...

"Sing to Him, sing praises to Him; Speak of all His wonders." Psalm 105:2

It's hard to read Genesis 1 and 2 and not be moved by the awesome power of God. Our memory verse for this week instructs us to speak of all His wonders, so I thought we'd take a moment to do just that!

Exodus 15:11 says, "Who is like you among the gods, O Lord? Who is like you, majestic in holiness, awesome in praises, working wonders?" We know the answer to these questions - there is NONE like the Lord - He alone is God! So let's declare His wonders today - it can be in a sentence or in just a word, but let's speak of His wonders - physically, relationally, spiritually - there is no limit to His power!

Again...I'll start:

Lake Michigan + wind = God's awesome power displayed!

Lake Michigan + no wind = God's peaceful respite for the soul...

Opportunities

Hi, gals,

Hmmm...another rainy day. Isn't God's power breath-taking? Whenever He gives us a glimpse, as He is doing today, I am taken back by how big He is and how small I am!

By the way, did any of you read the Grand Rapids Press on Saturday? On the front page of the Religion section was an article that should have pricked your ears...it did for Alice Driesenga and Donna Medendorf...I received copies of the article at church yesterday and will share it with you at study...really, unbelievable!

Here are a few opportunities for you to be aware of:
  • We are going to collect feminine products for the food pantry, so anything you can bring in within that category on Tuesday mornings would be greatly appreciated
  • There is a painting day at Jamie Priese's house on October 5th at 9:30 a.m. She is painting props and decorations that will be used for the Women's Retreat at the end of the month. I think the actual painting dates are Oct. 5-7, because of drying times and adding details. If you can help, give her a call, or just show up - I'm sure she'll have something for you to do...
  • Do you have Psalm 105:1 memorized for tomorrow? (Come on, gals, it's not that hard!)
  • Be sure to bring your prayer journal to class
See you in the morning!

Weekend Wish

"But when the kindness of God our Savior and His love for mankind appeared, He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by His grace we would be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life. This is a trustworthy statement; and concerning these things I want you to speak confidently, so that those who have believed God will be careful to engage in good deeds. These things are good and profitable for men." Titus 3:4-7

Ladies, be careful to engage in good deeds this weekend.

See you on Sunday...

The Dangers of Theistic Evolution

Here's a link to a great article over at Answers In Genesis - it's about the dangers of theistic evolution. For you gals who are doing a bit of extra study, you may find this interesting. The theory behind theistic evolution is pretty simple - God created through evolution. It's how many Christians try to meld science and the Bible, but it is still inconsistent with a literal hermeneutic.

While you're over there at AIG, nose around a bit - the site is full of wonderful information, but can be a bit intimidating at first glance. From the home page, if you click on "Get Answers", you can go to a daily devotional or their article archives and look around. A lot of it is pretty intense, but it's usually written in understandable language, so don't be worried that it's over your head.

Answers in Genesis has a great creation museum in Kentucky as well - have any of you been there? I went a year ago and was thrilled with my time there. I don't think they thought they would be as busy as they actually are, because we were packed in - great crowds, brothers and sisters in Christ, standing in awe of their Creator. If you go to the AIG website, be sure to take a look at the Creation Museum link...

Make known His deeds...

Today is overcast and rainy...easy to get busy with life and not notice that the heavens are declaring the glory of God. Are you talking about the rain? Yes, I'm talking about the rain.

I have friends who struggle with what has been labeled "seasonal depression" and overcast days are real downers for them. I will admit, I tend to be a bit more tired and sluggish on rainy days, but should that keep me from giving thanks to the Lord or calling on His name? Do I get a free pass from "making known His deeds among the peoples" because it's rainy and I'm grumpy? No, I don't think so...

So, ladies, jump in here - I'm giving you the opportunity to respond to our memory verse (Psalm 105:1) and make known what God is doing in your midst! To make it easy on you, I'll start...

As I look out at on my deck, through the rain and the fog I can see my purple wavy petunias lifting their little heads towards the sky and drinking up the mist and coolness...they love this weather. My bright yellow mums don't seem to be minding it either. Job marveled at God's provision when he said, "God thunders with His voice wondrously, doing great things which we cannot comprehend. For to the snow He says, 'Fall on the earth,' and to the downpour and the rain, 'Be strong.'"(37:5,6) We cannot look out our window and not see God's hand of provision - thank you, Father, for the rain, the coolness in the air, the ever praising flowers - may I extend my arms to you and accept your provision as your creation naturally does...

Okay, gals...your turn...what can you praise the Lord for today?
