From the desk of an Overcomer:
"For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world -- our faith. Who is the one who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God." I John 5:4,5
(3528 - nikao - conquer, overcome, prevail, get the victory)
I think they are brothers - a few years ago we had two babies born in a nest on the ridge in front of Engedi. They would return with their parents, still brown-headed and then after two years the parents came back alone, still sitting on the nest at times. Then these two show up and they seem younger than the parents - energetic, playing in the wind. I think they are the brothers, home for fall break from college...
And by the way, they are sitting in a massive tree and they make it look like a twig...remind me to tell you of the pterodactyl that tried to fly through my kitchen window this week...or was it a full grown male pileated woodpecker?
If you click on the picture, it will get larger. The eagle on the right looks bigger. Tim's comment is that they could be a young mating pair... The males are usually larger. You'll have to let us know if you have babies again! For some reason the chorus is now running through my head...Oh Lord, our Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth!
Actually in the case of bald eagles the female is usually larger by 2-5 pounds. The juveniles don't typically have full adult plumage like in this photo until 4-5 years. "Southern" eagles often mate for life while "northern" eagles that migrate often do not. (I don't know where the dividing line between north and south is or if the eagles in MI migrate or not.) However mated pairs do usually return to the same area to nest. Fabulous picture. Thanks for sharing.
That is amazing, God sure does make some wonderful creatures!!! And we have had a pileated wookpecker at our feeder before and they are huge... glad your window didn't break... Great picture
this is so cool....kristen, i do think it was a pileated woodpecker. i can hear them at my house pecking away. i've had them in our yard. they are pretty cool. just love all the nature living around us. we had twin deer roaming in our neighbor hood for a year.
If these are the siblings I think they are, then they were born about 5 years ago...so beautiful! It was a pileated woodpecker - scared me to death when it hit the window. I opened my deck door to see what it was and he was standing on the deck, rocking back and forth like he was drunk. Good thing he didn't break his neck...he was MASSIVE!
Kathy -- I'm sure you're right (about the cookies) and Kristin, you definitely did not exaggerate! These two are so majestic looking. I'd love to see them in flight. I keep thinking about the verse where it talks about mounting on eagles wings, running and not being weary, walking and not fainting. God is really awesome! And Jackie -- thanks for sharing your picture with all of us, it's nice to share in your moment of discovering more of God's glory :o)
Oh, WOW! It's beautiful! Way to go Jackie!
ReplyDeleteJust snapped a picture of God's glory!
