The juveniles don't typically have full adult plumage like in this photo until 4-5 years. "Southern" eagles often mate for life while "northern" eagles that migrate often do not. (I don't know where the dividing line between north and south is or if the eagles in MI migrate or not.) However mated pairs do usually return to the same area to nest. Fabulous picture. They would return with their parents, still brown-headed and then after two years the parents came back alone, still sitting on the nest at times. Then these two show up and they seem younger than the parents - energetic, playing in the wind.
