Whether or not you serve on a "board" doesn't really matter. If you are an elder, you are an elder. Now, practically, churches organize boards to function efficiently, but when it comes to deacon service, I think the men tend to have "boards" and the women do their service unofficially. Right or wrong, if you are acting in the role of deacon, you should be aware of the qualifications and should be given the title. He writes in the book that you don't have to go looking for elders for your church. The Holy Spirit will lay that on the hearts of men. I think this is also true for deacons. I don't think they have to be "elected" per se, I think that if someone is qualified and it is within their giftedness, then they should go to the leadership (elders) to be confirmed. That may be a process that an elder board sets up, to make sure the person is qualified, but bottom line - the position of deacon is a position of service and helps. I believe that much of the helps ministries are already handled by women, just without the title. The title would bring more accountability, but I believe that many women already serve in that role...Kristen Wisenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01525008643147234321noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8366560811035597565.post-66189024706532031022010-06-05T21:55:25.416-04:002010-06-05T21:55:25.416-04:00Once again the pieces fall into place.Once again the pieces fall into place.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14091260511850557957noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8366560811035597565.post-79052954024287315522010-06-05T21:35:35.376-04:002010-06-05T21:35:35.376-04:00So, how would it look in a local church, a woman i...So, how would it look in a local church, a woman in the office of a deacon? I have heard some say it is referring to the wives of deacons, but I don't see any reason within the context not to understand it as an inclusion of women in the deacon office. Women were created to be helpmeets, so the role of deacon comes naturally to us!
